Weatherization Public Hearings

The Virgin Islands Energy Office held three public hearings May to inform residents about funds received under the Weatherization Assistance Program. the V.I. Weatherization Assistance Program will receive $1.4 million. The hearings were held on each of the main islands in their respective senate buildings and were well attended.

The purpose of the Weatherization Assistance Program is to increase the energy efficiency of dwellings owned or occupied by low-income persons, reduce their total residential expenditures, and improve their health and safety.  The priority population for the Weatherization Assistance Program is persons who are particularly vulnerable such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, families with children, high residential energy users, and households with low incomes.

This is the first year the Virgin Islands has been eligible for grant money under the Weatherization program. It is expected that funding will continue on an annual basis.

Weatherization Day

Weatherization Day will be celebrated October 30 in the Virgin Islands. Weatherization Daywas conceived as a means to focus local, state, and national attention on the Program and the work being performed by dedicated members of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) network.
Capitalizing on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) declaration of October as Energy Awareness Month, Weatherization Programs across the country band together to make a strategic push to raise the public’s awareness of the work being done every day.
